Q: Is acupuncture a scientifically proven, evidence-based form of health care? A: Yes. I have many articles and studies I can show you.
Q: Do I need a referral? A: No! Acupuncture Physicians (in Florida) are primary health care providers. No referral needed.
Q: Does acupuncture hurt? A: Not usually. While pain is subjective, most patients agree that acupuncture is not painful. Most people don't even feel the needle when it is inserted. If you do feel it, it is like a quick pinch and then the discomfort is gone. I use sterile, single-use, surgical stainless steel needles that are silicone coated for a painless insertion. Needles are retained for 15 minutes to one hour depending on patient comfort and conditions treated.
Q: Is acupuncture safe? A: Yes. Acupuncture has been used successfully worldwide for over 2500 years. Dr. Knoth has completed 4 post graduate years of Chinese medical school, over 2 years of clinical work, 4 additional years of pediatric training and over 500 hours of additional supervised study in the field. She has passed all necessary licensing exams to practice acupuncture and Chinese medicine. Q: Do I have to believe in acupuncture for it to work? A: No. Acupuncture is scientifically based, physiological medicine. Dr. Knoth practices classical Chinese medical acupuncture with over 2500 years of research behind it. Acupuncture is neither energy medicine, eastern mysticism or a religion. Q: Can you be my only doctor? A: This is not advisable. Because I am not a medical doctor, my scope of practice is limited. I recommend that all my patients remain in contact with their doctor (MD, DO, DC, DDS) and continue with all recommended check ups and screenings. Allowing me to collaborate with your doctor is the safest and most effective way to get the results you're looking for.
Q: Do you accept insurance? A: Yes. PPO plans are usually covered and some HMOs like Blue Cross. Medicare and Medicade are not covered currently. You will fill out an insurance verification form so we can check your coverage. Health savings cards also accepted.
Q: Can I get acupuncture from anyone? A: Not safely! Acupuncture is regulated by the Board of Health. You should only receive treatment from a licensed acupuncturist. Our license requires 4 academic years of post-graduate study, a two-year clinical internship and biannual continuing education all of which I have completed and continue to complete biannually.
Q: Can you fix me? A: I will not ever claim to cure or fix anyone. This is outside the scope of my practice and illegal to say or claim in any way. The World Health Organization lists many conditions for which acupuncture has been proven effective.
Q: Acupuncture worked for someone I know, can you do the same for me? A: Again, results may vary. I will never claim to “cure” or “fix” anyone. Acupuncture treatments are very personalized. There is no such thing as a “one-size-fits-all” approach. Only after careful examination can I determine the course of treatment that is best for you. Still have questions? No problem!
